It’s been three years since a military coup sparked violent conflict in Myanmar and displaced its citizens across the country and neighbouring borders.
Many people are now living in displacement camps where they are struggling to access food, earn an income, stay safe from diseases, and continue their children’s education.
Part of TCBC’s Christmas Appeal will assist Baptist World Aid’s Partner as they provide ongoing assistance to displaced families from Myanmar.
Here are some of the ways that we will help people survive this conflict.
Meeting Immediate Needs
To build up people’s resilience, our Partner is providing:
• Food for families, including staples such as rice and dhal
• Mosquito nets to help prevent malaria
• Water storage tanks so families can store water rather than walking back and forth from
water sources with buckets
• Chickens and chicken feed so families can gain nutrition from the eggs and generate an
income.
• Weaving looms to help women supplement their family’s income with piecework
• Stationery and books for children to support their education
• Necessities such as sanitary products for women.

“In Sudan, famine has been declared as violent military conflict continues to scatter the population, disrupting agriculture and access to food. Over 26 million people face acute hunger. This is more than the population of Australia. If this famine continues, experts say it could be the worst the world has seen since Ethiopia in the 1980s.
Violent conflict has forced families to flee their homes, with over 9.1 million people displaced inside and outside of Sudan. Exploitation and abuse of women and children has risen, and diseases are on the rise as families have little or no access to healthcare.” Baptist World Aid
Part of TCBC’s Christmas appeal will help…
- provide malnourished children with life-saving healthcare services
- provide breastfeeding and pregnant mothers with essential medical supplies so mum and bub have the best chance at life
- provide clean water for affected families so they can survive

Horizons Family Law Centre helps families in crisis remake themselves.
Our support will help provide a free fortnightly legal clinic to our local community. It enables families to foster healthier relationships and increased connection beyond separation.
The Centre Focuses on families experiencing high conflict family breakdowns, child support, safety and family violence. The clinic helps protect children and parents from violence and abuse.
Horizons provides access to legal help. All people should be able to access legal help regardless of their background or financial situation. Horizons targets their help towards disadvantaged people who can’t otherwise access a lawyer. One of their clinics is run fortnightly at TCBC.
